All DT, All the Time!

There was so much new on the Designtechnica website this week, it took up the ENTIRE podcast. I’ll post a mini-show with product news, but for the time being, here’s what we got…

I make a couple comments about past reviews and podcasts. First, the Philips 9800i deal may not be as great as I thought it was. Listen to this podcast before you consider this item! Then there is the correction to the Shure E3G headphone review. Turn out the E3C and E3G, both headphones I reviewed and found very different, use the exact same drivers. That was not my experience, and my theory is that the E3Cs I got were in some way defective. I am 100% sure there was a significant difference. This was discussed on Head-Fi, a great headphone enthusiast site.

Check out Web 2.0 sites and the reason you might not need 7.1 for your home theater in these two informative articles!

We have reviews of the Bose Triports, which I would probably not be as generous to. listen to the podcast to hear why Bose is a success, and who they target. Also, we got the Steel Series 5H 5.1 headphones with integrated mic. Best part? The mic. The Moto SLVR get RVWD and we think it SCKS. Take a gander at the review for why.

I give a brief overview of the Sennheiser MM50 and HD435. There’s a thread on the 435s with my initial impressions. I hit some speed bumps with the MM50s, so listen first before you buy. Great headphones, but essential information you need to know before buying.

Two techy hygiene products get a quick blurb. The Gillette Fusion razor, that EVERYONE has been talking about, gets its requisite DT time. There’s some interesting info you won’t get anywhere else, though. And the Oral-B Triumph toothbrush. Find out why it is scientifically THE BEST toothbrush out there.

A forum thread on HDCP get an interesting twist. Want to see what ATI said about its graphics cards? Step into the internet archives and see the net as it was in Nov 2004. Notice “(DVI 1.0 / HDMI compliant and HDCP ready)”? Yeah, we did, too! Microsoft’s Origami project looks very interesting. Alas, no major announcement. And everyone’s favorite forum monger ECA posts some interesting controller/keyboard hybrids.

The big news yesterday was the Apple event, where the iPod Hi-Fi and Intel Mac mini were introed, along with an overpriced, control and screen hiding leather case for the iPod and iPod nano. Find out why the Ipod Hi-Fi might be Apple’s most recent iFailure, and how Apple pulled an ATI (and we caught them the same way) concerning graphics on the new mini.

Stay tuned for another show soon with other non-DT news!
